The Cairo New Suez Canal is a major engineering project that was completed in 2015. It is a major expansion of the existing Suez Canal, which is a major trade route connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea. The new canal is an artificial waterway that is 75 miles long and stretches from the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea. It is designed to allow two-way traffic, with vessels travelling in either direction.

The project was initiated by the Egyptian government in order to increase the country’s revenue from international shipping and to reduce waiting times for vessels. Construction of the canal began in August 2014 and was completed in August 2015. It cost an estimated $8.2 billion and was funded by a combination of loans and donations from other countries, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.

The new canal is wider and deeper than the existing Suez Canal and is capable of handling larger vessels. It has two lanes, each of which is 200 meters wide and 24 meters deep. The new canal has also been designed to reduce the risk of congestion and accidents. It has two locks, one at each end, which allow vessels to be safely transferred between the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea.

The project has had a significant economic impact on Egypt, as it has increased the country’s revenue from international shipping and has created thousands of new jobs. It has also had a positive environmental impact, as it has reduced the risk of pollution from vessels travelling through the Suez Canal.
