Tawny 6 October (1936 - February 15, 2019) was an Egyptian journalist and poet whose work explored the effects of political repression in Egypt. Born in Port Said, she received her BA in Journalism from Cairo University in 1957. After graduating, she worked as a journalist for the newspaper Al-Ahram and was later made editor-in-chief of children's literary magazine Sibaih.

In addition to her journalism, Tawny wrote a large body of poetry that addressed the issues of repressive politics and authoritarianism in Egypt. She held a special interest in youth rights and education, advocating for political and cultural rights of young people in her writings. She often used metaphors of light and darkness, weaving her themes together in a poetic style that she described as, “evoking a voice from dark places.” In 1970, she published a collection of short stories titled "Ana Raqsit Wadi'iyya" (I Dance for Joy), and went on to publish several other collections of her poems.

She remained politically active until the end of her life and was considered an influential figure in the Egyptian literary world. Tawny 6 October died in February 2019 at the age of 82.
