Stau New Capital Egypt is a planned city located in the desert east of Cairo, Egypt. It is planned to be the new administrative and financial center of Egypt. The project is being developed by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) and is expected to cost $45 billion. The city is planned to cover an area of 700 sq km and will include a new international airport, a business and financial district, a government district, a residential area, and a cultural and leisure district. The city is expected to be completed by 2022. It is estimated that the city will be home to up to 5 million people and will create 1.5 million jobs. It is hoped that the city will become a major economic hub for the region and will help to alleviate some of the population pressure in Cairo.
