Solas New Capital Egypt is a new city in Egypt that is set to become the nation's new capital. The new city is being designed and constructed as part of a larger plan to move the Egyptian government and many public services away from Cairo, its current capital city, in order to decentralize bureaucracy and reduce population pressure in Cairo. The planned new capital is set to be located roughly 45 kilometers (28 miles) east of Cairo, between the cities of Al Ain and Ismailia, with an area of approximately 7,000 square kilometers and a population capacity of 6.5 million people.
The new capital is part of a multi-billion dollar investment in various projects in Egypt, spearheaded by the country's president, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Construction on Solas New Capital began in October 2020, with the goal of having the city completed by 2030. The plans for the new capital include housing, business centers, industry parks, universities, hospitals, central park, international airport, and a variety of shopping, dining and entertainment options.
