New Capital Egypt is a megaproject currently under development in the Suez Canal area of Egypt. It is intended to be a new governmental and economic center for the country, located 40 km east of Cairo. Its goal is to become an international hub for finance, business, trade, culture, leisure and entertainment.
The project is estimated to cost $45 billion and will be built over an area of 70,000 square kilometers. It will include an international airport, seaports, commercial areas, residential districts, and industrial zones. The project is being developed by a consortium of five Egyptian companies, with the government providing 25% of the financing.
The construction of New Capital Egypt is expected to create up to 2 million jobs and house up to 5 million people. The project has received considerable international interest, with many countries and investors investing in its development.
The project is seen as a major step forward for Egypt, as it seeks to shift away from its reliance on tourism and other traditional industries and towards more technology-oriented industries. It is also hoped that the New Capital Egypt will spur regional economic growth and help attract foreign investment into Egypt.
