Korba compound: A Historic Gated Community of Heliopolis

Korba compound is one of the earliest gated communities built in Heliopolis, Egypt in the early 1900s. It was developed by famous Egyptian contractor and architect Kadri Korba who named the compound after himself. It attracted the Egyptian elite and upper-middle class seeking a safe, secure and prestigious place to live with a high standard of architectural quality. Many notable Egyptians resided in Korba compound over the decades including former Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser.

Today, Korba compound remains an upscale and desirable gated community, though facing various preservation challenges due to neglect and lack of maintenance over the years. Some villas have been well restored, while others are in a dilapidated state. There are ongoing efforts to preserve the historic character of Korba compound and maintain its architectural heritage. It stands as an important landmark of history and a symbol of affluence in early 20th century Egypt.
