ICity is an innovative megaproject in 6th of October City, Egypt. The project is the brainchild of Abu Dhabi-based developer Emaar Properties PJSC, who are investing US$4.9 billion into the scheme.

The project is located on a 2.6 million square meter plot in the affluent 6th of October City, approximately 28 kilometers outside of the center of Cairo and is set to become one of the largest integrated cities in the world upon completion.

iCity is expected to be a truly self-sufficient city and will offer a broad range of housing options, educational facilities, recreational and entertainment areas, commercial and retail units as well as healthcare and community services.

The residential component of the project offers over 10,000 housing units including villas, townhouses and apartments with a built-up area of approximately 1.4 million square meters. The project will also offer 15 hectares of commercial buildings, 10 hectares of leisure, entertainment and cultural facilities, five hectares of schools and other educational facilities and two hectares of community services buildings.

The project is designed to reflect the architectural heritage of Egypt and is served by an advanced infrastructure with smart solutions to ensure efficient operation of the city. Additionally, a large part of the development will also focus on sustainability initiatives such as renewable energy sources, green transportation, water conservation and waste management systems.

The project is being developed in phases with the first phase expected to be completed by 2021. Once fully operational, iCity is set to become a prime economic, social and cultural hub of Cairo, and a key regional destination.
